I’ve got the VIN# decoded but not the paint and trim codes for sure.

I’m not sure what has been swapped out and replaced over the years- the Jeep is kinda rough. But some of the other options listed on the tag don’t add up to what I’m seeing on the Jeep. this condition could allow a gradual transfer of lubricant from the transmission to the transfer case.

After he delivered it the other day, it turns out it’s an ‘81 H code (AMC 304 V8). the involved vehicles may have been built with the transmission adapter plate seal improperly seated. The Bill of Materials (B.O.M) number is stamped on the right or left hand tube of the driving axles and with the help of a Spicer catalog you should be able to get all the specs and part.
The model number and date are self explanatory. such as the brand family, Chrysler, Jeep, Imperial, Plymouth or Eagle. The illustration below will help identify the Dana Axle in your Jeep.
